First piece of fiction: a short script to apply to film school in Los Angeles, where he later worked as a screenwriter.

Screenwriting: wrote on Crusoe for NBC, adapted several bestselling novels including Manhattan Nocturne, A Year In The Merde, and classic sci-fi like The Stars My Destination and Stainless Steel Rat for 20th Century Fox, before deciding to write a novel himself.

Trivia: Rohan’s name is Indian and his grandfather hailed from Allahabad. His mother is children’s writer Jamila Gavin.

First novel: wrote teen detective novel Knightley & Son and signed a three book deal with Bloomsbury, going on to write sequels K-9 and 3 Of A Kind.

Other work: directed a music video for his wife, Dido.

Favourite pastime: playing guitar with his 12-year-old son on drums.
